Tanzania: Dar Investment Opportunities Attract Investors

Tanzania remains the centre of attractions to investors in Africa and the globe due its immense and unique investment opportunities.
"Tanzania is endowed with unique investment opportunities among the East African countries and has been the major focus on most investors from Africa and the world," the Frontier Advisor, Deloitte, Mr Martyn Davies said in Dar es Salaam at the weekend.
He made the remarks on behalf of the delegation of bankers and entrepreneurs from South Africa during their visits into the Tanzania Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) to explore investment opportunities.
He added, "As bankers we have come to visit and get details from the horse mouth in order to advise our clients wishing to expand their investments into the eastern part of the continent to consider and give priority to Tanzania."
He said the eastern part of Africa has been drawing attentions of potential investors not only from Africa but all over the world due to the new investment opportunities in areas of gas and oil, mining and agriculture.
He said the governments in the region should continue to put conducive environment in order to attract potential investors and for a win win situation so that local people may become the beneficiaries of the resources.
The delegation toured the Tanzania Tooku Garments Co. Ltd; a textile industry which is operating at Benjamin William Mkapa Special Economic Zones, producing a range of textile products especially jeans and shirts for exports.
The Investment and Promotion Manager at the Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA), Ms Grace Lemunge, welcomed the delegation and after the presentations she asked them to be good ambassadors of the investment opportunities in South Africa.
"Special economic zones (SEZs) are geographically designated areas set aside in the country for specifically target economic activities, with support through special economic zone arrangements, including laws and systems, which are often different from those applied in other areas," she said.
She said 144 companies have invested in various economic zones, where 44 per cent are foreign and 56 per cent are local. Apart from Benjamin William Mkapa Special Economic Zones, others are Hifadhi EPZ, Vector Health EPZ, Arusha, Kamal Industrial Park and Tooku Garmets.
